Actos
On August 24, 2010, the Los Angeles Times reported that a new study shows that Actos and Avandia have about the same risks for cardiovascular injury. The new study of more than 36,000 diabetics, done by researchers at health insurer WellPoint Inc, compared the risk of heart attacks, heart failure and death for an average of 14 months of treatment, and for a year and a half after treatment. The researchers found the risks of death or having a heart attack, heart failure or both were the same, about 4 percent, for patients taking either Avandia, known generically as rosiglitazone, or Takeda Pharmaceutical Co's Actos, known generically as pioglitazone.
