In November 2007, the FDA ordered a black box warning to be added to the label that included a warning about a potential increase in heart attacks and heart-related chest pain in some individuals using Avandia. This new warning was based on the result of a controlled clinical trial in patients with existing congestive heart failure. In July 2010, a panel of FDA Advisors met and delivered a split verdict, with 21 of the 33 panel members voting to leave it on the market, but the majority of those voting "yes" voted to strengthen the label language even more. The FDA is still investigating evidence as to what it should do in this particular situation. Read the FDA Alert. How can Whatley Drake and Kallas help me?
