Yaz: Are You At Risk?
Whatley Drake & Kallas
Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella
Yaz and Yasmin are oral contraceptives marketed to young women for not only being a contraceptive, but in addition, being able to reduce water retention and bloating. Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella are birth control pills that are a combination of estrogen and progestin. Yaz and Yasmin, along with the generic brand Ocella, contain a new type of progestin called Drospirenone, which is a fourth generation progestin.

What is Drospirenone?
Drospirenone is a progestin that can cause an increase in potassium levels in the blood. Too much potassium in the blood can lead to Hyperkalemia. Hyperkalemia can cause problems with your heart rhythm. If left untreated, problems with your hear rhythm can disrupt the flood of blow through your heart, which can lead to blood clot formation. Drospirenone is unique to Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella, giving these birth control pills the potential to be more dangerous than others.

The law firm of Whatley Drake and Kallas is representing women who were taking Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella and have suffered from:
